Inspection of Cylinder and Slide Valve.

In the end of the season 2002 Vølund Junior started to sound strange. The steam strokes were replaced by a nearly constant wheezing and the engine was not willing to work.
There are only two possible explanations for this - cylinder and slide valve – it could be a broken ring.

Fearing the worst – but the cylinder was not the problem, in fact it looked well.

Then we continued with the sliding valve.

Bo is loosening the sliding rod.

Please observe the "propeller" in front of the cylinder. It is an invention of Mr. Jørgen Permin – it gives swirl to the exhaust steam to avoid soot deposits on the inside of the chimney.

Piston and slide valve in front of the front roller.

In fact a ring was broken at the slide valve.
A company selling cast iron has sponsored material for a new ring, which is now installed.
