Repport
from Esbjerg
February 2004
|
We have not worked very fast the last time due to a lot
of discussion regarding riveting procedures etc. with Erik Rothmann and
Helge Simonsen.
Now we are making progress again and please find below
pictures showing this. |
The boiler is positioned in the new stand with rollers, so it can
be rotated when riveting the tube plate in the front.
Villy, Henning and Hans are discussing the matter.
Don’t be confused by Hennings boiler suit. It should be marked Vølund,
not Vestas!!!!!! |
Here the boiler is positioned alone in stand, with a crane beam above so
it can be manipulated with a couple of chain blocks. |
Gerhardt is ready with the new tube plate for mounting in the boiler.
The plate is made by Pridham. We have done the drilling and turning
ourselves and riveted a new T-beam stiffener on the free plate area above
the holes.
The work was done at Helge a day in January together with Erik Rothmann.
Harry and Hans also participated. |
Gerhardt and Hans have nearly positioned the tube plate in the boiler.
For the time being it is in position and the new holes for the rivets are
drilled in the flange.
|
The new threaded supporting bolts are mounted with 8 mm
additional length recommended by Erik.
The thread is made with a extra long 5/8" tap, which has
been bought at Pridham. The original bolts were dimension 1/2" and
consequently the new bolts are turned to the same core diameter in the
middle as the original bolts to reduce the stiffness. |
In the near future we expect Erik and Helge
will travel to Esbjerg starting the cold riveting of the stay bolts and
making the hot riveting of the tube plate. We expect two days for those
activities. |
