The horizontal plate iron stiffener over the tube holes supports the upper part of the smoke box wall.

The holes for the boiler tubes are reamed with a reamer and prepared to receive the new tubes.
The tube plate in the firebox seen from the boiler. In the top one can see the shell. The horizontal "beam" is another plate iron stiffener, which holds the boiler together. The tube plate in the fire box seen from the fire box. Please observe the fusible plug in the centre.

A view from the cleaning hole at the backside of the firebox. At the bottom of the picture one can partly see the fusible plug. Inside the horizontal tube the axle fixing the boiler to the frame is situated. In the top one can see the holes leading the steam to the whistle, the governor and the fan.

Here you see Mr. Bent Delfs...

After the boiler tubes have been rolled they are bend to avoid overheating of the tube ends.
